The Media Collection tab provides a quick and easy way to browse all of the images and videos available on Britannica.com. When you click this tab, you will be taken to the Media Collection browse screen.
When this page first opens, you will see featured media, both images and videos. This is indicated by highlighting the “Featured Media” title at the top of the subject list on the left side of the screen.
Just below this section you will find a list of subject categories for our media collection.
These categories are:
Arts and Literature
Land, Air, and Sea
Living Things (other)
Sports and Recreation
When you click on one of these categories, you will see the selected category and a list of subcategories from which you can continue to narrow your media search.
The subcategories, in some cases, can be narrowed even further to help you find specific media. You can keep track of your browsing path by referring to the outline on the left side of the screen.
To choose the type of media you want to view, select either the “Images” or “Video” tab at the top of the results screen.
Both images and videos are displayed as a grid, with four results across in each row, moving in alphabetical order, left to right, then down to the next row.
The total number of results in your refined category, as well as the number currently being viewed, is displayed above the browse results on the right side.
If you want to page through the results in this category, use the paging tool just below the browse results on the left-hand side. Using this tool, you can either move forward or backward page by page or jump directly to one of the numbered pages (displayed in 10-page increments).
If you want to change the number of results on each page, you can select from either 12, 24, 36, or 48 per page using the drop-down menu found just below the results screen on the right side.
