Country Snapshots
Country Snapshots offer statistics on demography, vital statistics, national
economy, transportation and communication, education and health, and military
for individual countries.
To view a Country Snapshot:
Select a country from the drop-down menu.
Click Go.
The table will display in a pop-up window.
NOTE: Country Snapshots are PDFs and require Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, the document will open immediately after you click Go. If you do not have the appropriate program, you will be prompted to save the file and will be able to open it from that location after downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader. To download and install Adobe’s free version, please go to the Adobe Web site.
Country Comparisons
Analyze data using charts and tables. You can create comparisons, or focus
on statistics for a single country. If you would like to see the most
recent available data, use Current Comparisons. If you would like
to observe changes over time, use Chronological Comparisons, which
offers historical data spanning up to 90 years.
To create a table for either set of data, follow these steps:
Select countries
a) Highlight a country from the Options list.
b) Click "Add" to include it in your table or chart.
c) Repeat the same process for every country you would like to include
in the comparison. You may continue to add countries until you reach the
maximum number allowed.
d) Remove an unwanted country from your list by highlighting it and
clicking "Delete."
e) Erase all of the items in your country list by clicking "Reset."
Select statistics
a) Highlight a statistical category from the Options list.
b) Click "Add" to include it in your table or chart.
c) Repeat the same process for any other statistics you would like
to include until you reach the maximum number allowed.
d) Remove an unwanted statistic from your list by highlighting it and
clicking "Delete."
e) Erase all of the items in your statistics list by clicking "Reset."
NOTE: Only one statistic can be selected when creating
a Chronological Comparison because each category spans a unique number
of years and is divided by different increments.
Select the display format
a) Click "Create a Table" or "Create a Chart."
b) View your selection in a pop-up window.
c) Add or delete countries or statistics by closing the pop-up window
and repeating the steps above.
After creating a table or chart, the links in the pop-up window provide several options for using and manipulating it. You can reverse the axes of a table by clicking "Switch the rows and columns of this table." Create a printer-friendly version by clicking "Print this page." E-mail the table to yourself or a friend by clicking "E-mail this page."
Ranked Statistics
Ranked Statistics compile information for all countries and allow you to
view the countries with the highest or lowest totals, rates, or percentages
in statistical categories ranging from population to vegetable production
to cellular phones. It also offers information about major natural and
man-made features of the world.
Highest Rankings orders the countries from highest to lowest according to the most recent available data. To create a table:
Choose the number of countries you would like to see ranked.
Choose the geographic region you would like to include.
Choose the statistic you would like to view.
Click "Create a Table" to view your selection in a pop-up window.
Lowest Rankings orders the countries from lowest to highest according to the most recent available data. To create a table:
Choose the number of countries you would like to see ranked.
Choose the statistic you would like to view.
Click "Create a Table" to view your selection in a pop-up window.
